Q: What is Reiki?
A: Reiki is the Japanese word for ‘Universal Life Force Energy’.

Q: What happens in a Reiki treatment?
A: Reiki is a non-invasive healing treatment. Reiki involves placing the hands on (or away from) the body (fully clothed!) in a series of positions to allow healing energy to flow, enabling physical, spiritual and emotional balance.

You may feel some shifting of energy in the form of 'pulses', heat, cold, tingles - these are all natural. Simply ask the therapist if you have any doubts and ensure they know if you are uncomfortable in anyway.

Q: What will I have to do in a Reiki treatment?
A: NOTHING! Relax, enjoy and allow the therapist to do all the work. The more you can relax, the more benefits you will reap from the energies working.

Q: What symptoms/conditions can Reiki help?
A: Reiki is helpful for many common ailments including, but not limited to: Insomnia, physical aches & pains, headaches, menstrual problems, stress, depression and general well being.

Q: How long will the treatment take?
A: Anything from 10 minutes to an hour. On your first visit the therapist will take a case history including your general health and well-being. The therapist will then proceed with the treatment whislt you either sit or lie. The time taken will depend on the individuals need.

Q: What is a Hopi Ear Candle?
A: The Hopi Candle is not a candle as such, but a hollow tube made out of cotton flax. To stiffen the flax, they are impregnated with extract of honey and herb oils (in particular chamomile, sage and St Johns Wort), the healing properties of which have been known to the Hopi tribe for hundreds of years. The making of the candles is a complex process and all genuine Hopi Candles are made in the traditional manner.

Q: History of Hopi Ear Candles?
A: Hopi Ear Candles are named after the Native American tribe who first introduced this gentle therapy to the West. The Hopi nation is renowned for their extensive knowledge of healing and their spiritual lifestyle. The translation of the word Hopi means "peaceful ones".
Ear Candles are used widely throughout North America and Asia and although the current treatment has come to us from the Hopi tribe, the use of ear candles to treat ear problems has been known for centuries, having been used by the Egyptians, Romans and Greeks.

Q: What happens in a Hopi Ear Candle treatment?
A: The treatment is very gentle and relaxing. You will be asked to lie on your side so that the ignited candle can be placed in the ear orifice. As it burns it produces a gentle local heat. The warm air combined with the oil and herbs soften the wax and draw it into the base of the candle. The candle is then removed and the ear and surrounding area is then massaged. The treatment is repeated on the other ear and then a complete facial massage is carried out, paying particular attention to the sinus areas.

Q: Will the Hopi Ear Candle treatment hurt?
A: NO. There may be some initial discomfort but tell your therapist. The treatment is very relaxing and after you should be left feeling relaxed, refreshed, clearer in your nose, head, eyes and throat. Generally more relaxed.

Q: Do you have to do both ears?
A: It is advisable to carry out the treatment in both ears so that you are left feeling balanced and totally relaxed.

Q: How long should a Hopi Ear Candle treatment take?
A: Generally about 30 - 45 minutes depending on how quickly the candles burn. It could take longer if you have a longer face massage.

Q: Are there any contra-indications to Hopi Ear Candles? (Any reasons not to have a treatment)
A: Yes. You have perferated ear drums or grommets or may be allergic to any of the ingredients. (Bees wax, linen, St John's Wart, Camomile, Sage)

Q: What is Indian Head Massage (Chompi)?
A: A stimulating, but relaxing massage of the head, neck, shoulders and face.

Q: Will the therapist use an oil or cream in an Indian Head Massage?
A: That depends on the therapist. Personnaly I do only with consultation with the client. Others however, some use a light base oil (i.e. grapeseed, others cream & some talc).

If you are allergic or prefer a different substance then make sure your therapist is aware.

Q: What can Indian Head Massage be used for?
A: Indian Head Massage may bring about:
General feeling of wellbeing, calmness and relaxation, higher levels of alertness and concentration.

It may also help relieve or alleviate:
Tension headaches, Eyestrain / eye problems, Insomnia, Neck and shoulder stiffness, Sinusitis and congestion, Hair loss/thinning, Scalp tension, Mental tiredness/anxiety/stress

Q: What happens in an Indian Head Massage treatment?
A: The lovely thing about this treatment is that it can be done anywhere - only requiring a chair - making it an ideal treatment for the corporate environment.

The client remains fully clothed whilst the treatment is performed and just takes advantage of a little "time to themselves".

Normally the treatment lasts about ½ hour however, the treatment can be tailored to suit your requirements.

Q: What is Kinesiology?
A: Kinesiology (pronounced Kin-kneesy-ology) is a holistic therapy concerned with rebalancing body using muscle monitoring to communicate directly with the body.

See the Health Kinesiology website for more information:Click Here

Q: What happens in a Kinesiology treatment?
A: Initially your Kinesiologist will take a case history covering your medical background, family and any concerns you have. You will also discuss any goals you may have for example health, fitness, confidence, general well-being.

The Kinesiologist will then establish an order of work to be done and how many sessions are required. The process can be interesting and very enlightening as the therapist uncovers the work pattern by holding accupressure points on the body. Many 'tools' can be used for example: magnets, flower essences, mantra amongst others.

Q: What can Kinesiology help?
A: Kinesiology is excellent for all allergies and intolerances but it can help you even if there is no perceived problem, confidence levels, stress, attitude, health, physical and psychological well-being all benefit. A truly holistic therapy!

Q: Which treatment is right for me?
A: A good therapist can help you discover which treatment you will get the most benefit from. An ideal way is through muscle testing as in Kinesiology. The body can indicate to the therapist the best way at that time for you heal.

Q: What if something goes wrong?
A: In most to all complimentary therapies there is little 'danger'.

If you have picked your therapist well then they will be qualified and onscientious. ALL good therapists should cover Public Liability Insurance with a minimum of £1 million (GBP)- ask to see this if you are not sure.

Q: What is Swedish Massage?
A: Swedish physiologist named Per Henrik Ling (1776-1839), created a scientific system of massage movements and techniques known as Swedish Massage. This consists of five basic strokes: effleurage (stroking), petrissage (kneading), friction, tapotement (percussion), and vibration, though all of these strokes are not used on every part of the body.

Q: What happens in a massage treatment?
A: Your therapist will take a case history covering your medical history to see if there are any contra-indications to massage (see contra indications). You will then be asked to undress to a level which is comfortable for you and cover yourself in a towel. The therapist will then massage in a discrete manner using a good base oil (i.e. grapeseed) or cream.

Q: What are the contra-indications for massage?
A: You may be refused massage or asked by your therapist for doctors referal for some or all of the following: Cancer, open skin wounds, Haemophilia, Phlebitis/Thrombosis, Eczema, psoriasis, acne, Bone fractures/metal plates, Osteoporosis, Varicose veins, Epilepsy, high/low Blood Pressure.

Q: Will the massage hurt?
A: Swedish Massage should be relaxing. You may feel some discomfort especially if there are any tight muscles or recent bruising (if you are recently injured a therapist should NOT treat this area). A good therapist should ask you if you are comfortable with the pressure applied. If at any point you are not then let them know, they will be more than happy to adjust the pressure to suit your needs.

If some time has passed and the tension in areas is intense it could be that you may experience some stiffness the next day. If this is so - treat with gentle stretching of the areas and apply heat in the form of a bath, shower, heat bag etc. If it continues then seek medical advise and call your therapist.

Q: Why must I drink water after a treatment?
A: Water is simply fantastic. After any energy work the body can become dehydrated. In addition lots of toxins are released from massage, Reiki and other work therefore to drink AT LEAST 2 litres a day helps to flush these toxins from the body and helps the body to heal quicker (it can also helps with the reduction of cellulite).

In addition water is fantastic for the skin. Have you ever noticed how your skin looks dull and 'loose' when you have had to much alcohol or rich food? Try drinking more and see the difference - wrinkles are less and your skin can look younger.

Water can also help the long term memory.
